How to use 3D software for design & visual representations with Jason Price
I have been a graphic designer for the best part of 30 years, and originally in a small sign shop in Chichester in West Sussex. We received a contract for a small event called Goodwood Festival of Speed, which turned into a large event. This is where my career in motorsport began back in 1995.
From then until now I have worked as a designer, fitter and manufacturer of signage, vehicle graphics & vehicle wraps. In 1999, I wrapped my first car which was a BMW in Avery cast bright orange…it was an utter joy to do! Since then, I have designed and wrapped all kinds of vehicles from road to race cars.
Along the way, I have run and maintained a wide variety of wide-format printers which helps me in my design processes, it is the same as having an understanding of fitting. I design liveries as if I were the one to fit them.
A few years ago, I hung up my heat gun and now focus entirely on the design for motorsports, from BTCC & GT through to the WEC & ELMS championships.
Talking at WrapFest 2024
This will be my second year talking at WrapFest. I believe it is important to share knowledge and advice to those looking to begin the (sometimes frustrating!) journey into the industry. By sharing both my experiences and tips with others I hope it will make this journey for others slightly less painful, as it is a tough road to travel!
I enjoyed last year’s event immensely, it was a fresh look at an ever-increasing industry, and I hope it continues to grow and it is located at Silverstone (my second home!), which is a bonus!
My Wrap Talk is will focus on the use of 3D software for design & visual representations for livery design where I will discuss the power of Blender and how it can entirely transform your design. I will be focussing on setting up a car, a Golf GTI for a livery design. Within my talk, I will cover the model breakdown, UV mapping, 3D & 2D design processes.
In addition, I will offer advice on how to set up a computer system that will benefit you, trying to render high-end images on your laptop will only end in a mess!
